Giants Ridge Recreation Area – Snowmaking Infrastructure Upgrades
Project: Snowmaking Infrastructure Upgrades
Owner: Giants Ridge Recreation Area
Value: $11.5 million | Five-month project
Scope of Work: Lakehead replaced seven miles of piping and installed 76 tower-mounted snow guns that are part of a state-of-the-art automated snowmaking system for a 200-acre ski resort. The project included trenching and laying the network of water pipes, air lines, power, and data cables required to run the newly automated system. Lakehead also poured footing piers and constructed towers for the snow guns, installed 76 hydrants and handled snow gun assembly and installation.
Lakehead operators navigated the ski hill’s steep terrain using tracked dump trucks and stringing trailers and relied on a vacuum loader for unloading pipe to enhance worker safety on the slopes. The full range of civil services provided included site prep, concrete footings, piers and foundations for the snow guns, snow gun erection, crane support, pipefitting, painting/coating, and materials receiving.
