Pulp & Paper For the past 18 years, Lakehead Constructors, Inc. has provided construction, procurement, maintenance and outage / shutdown services in the pulp and paper industry. We employ on-site mechanical maintenance crews that perform day-to-day plant maintenance and participate in scheduled and emergency shutdowns. Having a multi-craft crew on site gives us the ability to handle large shutdowns by utilizing them as supervisors during large outages. Their working knowledge of mill equipment and familiarity will mill employees allows them to be more efficient when leading a crew during shutdowns.
Along with the day to day maintenance we also do capital improvement projects and emergency service work. When doing capital projects we are involved in many cases from conception to completion. We assist with engineering, material procurement, document changes, arrange subcontractors when necessary and track costs for projects, an example would be the ground calcium carbonate project in which we did pile driving, excavation, concrete work, structural steel, piping, setting of equipment and helped supervise the tank erector.
We also have the ability to respond to jobs at the last minute as we did on the clarifier line cleaning project in late November 2007. An 18" feed line to the clarifier was plugged and we were asked to drain the clarifier and assist in getting the line cleaned out. We were able to mobilize equipment and manpower to do this on a moments notice working around the clock with temperatures of -15 degrees. Ken Snell sent a letter of thanks for the job we did on this project.
Lakehead also offers the day to day maintenance skills required to keep a paper machine running at top performance. Some things that we do include drive shaft M's. cleaning and repainting roll housings, change felt rolls in press and dryers, dryer can internal inspections, pulper inspections along with chain and conveyor work in the wood room.
